Dogwood Finals
August 5,2001: The team of owner
Robert Murphy of Surrey and trainer and driver Bill
Davis made it a sweep as Red Star Sunshine swept to victory Sunday
in
the Dogwood Cup final for fillies and mares at Sandown Park.
Sunshine (As Promised) made it six wins on
the year and five in her last
six starts by winning by seven lengths in a new lifetime mark of
1:56.
Ohtbe South (Tylers Point) was second and Dal Reo Destiny (Safe N
Rich)
third in the field of eight which battled for a purse of $20,600.
Meanwhile, Red Star Executive (Run The
Table) raced gate to wire in a
new lifetime mark of 1:56 to capture the Dogwood for colts and
geldings
Saturday.
Favourite at 1-2 with entry mate Red Star
Tex, the three-year-old colt,
made it three wins in a row and three in five 2001 starts.
The Pacing Priest (Barstow Hanover) was
second and Nazko Promise (As
Promised) was third in the field of eight which raced for a purse
of
$21,900.
