THREE GREAT RACING DAYS AHEAD AT HASTINGS
Thoroughbred racing returns with a bang to Hastings Racecourse this weekend with $50,000 stakes races Saturday and Sunday afternoons plus a spunky eight-race card Friday Night that features the 2010 return of Noble Lad.
Trainer Frank Barroby, named to Canada?s Horse Racing Hall of Fame last month, sends out Noble Lad in the seventh race Friday for only his fifth career start. He was originally part of a multi-million dollar package purchased by Swift Thoroughbreds from Darley Stable. Noble Lad moved to Barroby?s barn last fall after being sold to local owner Dr. Ed Weibe.
The Jim Coleman Province on Saturday has drawn seven 3-year-olds with last year?s Jack Diamond Futurity winner Silly Fella a possible post time favourite. Leading trainer Troy Taylor will have Cherokee Notion and Dyna Stroll entered and trainer Mel Snow sends out Sense of Humor, winner of a $75,000 optional race in his only start this year.
Sunday?s feature is the John Longden 6000 that sees the return of 2009 Horse of the Year Teide, who scored a resounding victory in the George Royal Stakes on May 8. Teide will face stablemate Almost Time as well as Senor Rojo and Tommy Danzigger.

Following the post parade to the sixth race Friday night at Hastings there will be a draw for a trip for two to Las Vegas. Entries have been collected since the first Friday Night Live program (May 14) with the purchase of a frothy Budweiser product. The winner must be in attendance Friday to win the trip presented by Hastings, Budweiser and VIP Travel.
TRIPLE CROWN CONTEST ENDS SATURDAY
Hastings Racecourse patrons can enter the final day of the Triple Crown contest on Saturday prior to the running of the Belmont Stakes that will be shown live via simulcast from New York at 3:32 p.m. local time. Hastings fans are reminded to bring their passports from the other two Triple Crown races and get it stamped for the Belmont. The passport is then submitted to the HPI window with a chance to win up to $3,000.
It?s a huge day at Belmont with a million dollar guaranteed Pick 6 that encompasses races 6 thru 11, all stake races. The first leg goes at 11:34 PST. There is also a guaranteed million dollars for the Pick 4 that runs from races 8 thru 11. The Belmont goes as the 11th race and has drawn a field of 12 to go a mile and a half. The early morning line favourite is Ice Box at 3-1. He was second in the Kentucky Derby but skipped the shorter Preakness.

HASTINGS SCHEDULE ADJUSTMENT
Hastings Racecourse General Manager Raj Mutti has announced a change to the 2010 thoroughbred racing schedule. ?After an extensive review, we have decided to postpone the Friday, July 2 date in favour of Friday, September 24,? Mutti said. ?With a healthy horse population at the start of the season, we were very optimistic that we could maintain the holiday scheduling of four consecutive racing dates. But after the Victoria Day weekend and four straight days of racing, the toll on the horse population prompted management to reconsider the original racing schedule.?
There will be live racing on Canada Day ? Thursday, July 1 ? as well as Saturday, July 3 and Sunday, July 4. All start times are 1:40 p.m.
SPECIAL NIGHT FOR A SPECIAL PERSON
Canadian harness racing icon Robert Murphy will be honoured at Fraser Downs Racetrack & Casino on Friday, June 11. Robert Murphy Night will be a salute to one of Canada?s most prominent breeders and owners in the history of standardbred racing. Mr. Murphy passed away on February 8, 2010 at the age of 77.
Robert Murphy Night will include a race in his name and the unveiling of the Robert Murphy Room located off the Atrium in the main entrance to Fraser Downs.
Born in Vancouver, Robert Murphy?s horses were credited with well over $105 million in purse earnings over two decades. Mr. Murphy and his wife, Mary, were honoured by the B.C. Standardbred Breeders? Society in 2008 with the renaming of the BC Breeders Stakes for 3-year-olds. Robert Murphy was inducted into the British Columbia Horse Racing Hall of Fame in 2009.
Mrs. Murphy says she expects upwards of 25 family members and friends to be on hand at Fraser Downs for the evening dedicated to her husband of 58 years.
FUND RAISER FOR SURREY MEMORIAL HOSPITAL
Following Robert Murphy Night on June 11 there will be a major benefit for the Surrey Memorial Hospital Foundation on Saturday, June 12 at Fraser Downs. Racing will start at 6:00 p.m. with a special Rock ?N Racing program at 9:00 p.m. with live music featuring three bands: All About Jack, Drink That Fat and the Keith Diamond Rockets. Tickets are available at Fraser Downs or through Thornley Hayne Creative at 604-581-2827 to those 19 years of age and over.
CUSTOMER APPRECIATE NIGHT JUNE 19
The final date on this year?s standardbred calendar is Saturday, June 19 ? Customer Appreciate Night with an Academy Awards theme, red carpet and all. Prizes will be available throughout the evening with the major draw being a Twin Anchors Houseboat Vacation for 15.
