Unsafe Track Conditions at Fraser Downs Force Cancellation of Weekend Cards

December 18, 2009

Surrey, B.C. (Dec. 18/09) – In a joint decision today of the Drivers Committee and Fraser Downs management, it was agreed that all three days of racing at the Downs this weekend will be cancelled due to unsafe track conditions.

“The decision was regrettably made in the best interests of the horses and drivers,” said Fraser Downs General Manager Chuck Keeling. “Based on the current conditions of the track, it is our belief it would not be safe tonight, Saturday and Sunday in fairness to the participants and betting public, the decision was made to cancel all three days.”

After an inspection of the track conditions at Fraser Downs earlier today, Keeling compared the jelly-like surface to the equivalent of “stepping in soup”.

Racing will resume Boxing Day on Dec. 26 at 1:15 p.m.
